TruXedo has been providing truck owners with heavy-duty and innovative tonneau covers for over 20 years. The company, which is a portmanteau of "tuxedo" and "truck," is known for its quality products at affordable prices.
Located in Yankton, South Dakota, TruXedo offers covers for Ford, Chevy, Ram, and Toyota drivers, and many more. One of the highlights of the inventory is the TruXedo Truxport, which functions for trucks from 1975 onwards. If you are considering investing in one, this TruXedo Truxport review has everything you need to know before you shop.
What Is the TruXedo Truxport?
The TruXedo Truxport is a soft roll-up truck bed cover that combines affordability with functionality. It comes with a low-profile appearance and leather grain black material for a stylish look to compliment any truck. When the cover closes over the bed, it only sits an inch and half above the railing.
More important than looks, though, the TruXedo Truxport also delivers exceptional versatility. The installation process is hassle-free, and the material is light enough that you can roll it with a single hand. The tarp tension can also be manually tightened to prevent water or snow from leaking into your truck bed.
TruXedo Truxport’s Best Features
Design
The well-rounded design is what makes the TruXedo Truxport so functional. It is also why you’ll have no problem using it. The tonneau cover comes with a convenient cab buckle, quick-adjust straps, and dual-paddle latches. You can even disassemble it in seconds without tools, if necessary.
Likewise, the TruXedo Truxport is one of the easiest tonneau covers to install. You don’t need special tools or a drill–just a wrench and clamps that come with the tarp. Even if you’ve never installed a tonneau cover before, it’ll take you 30 minutes or less.
Material
The TruXedo Truxport utilizes a high-quality vinyl with a leather embossment. It is naturally water-resistant and suitable for rain, snow, sleet, hail, mud, dirt, and dust. If it does get dirty, the slick surface is easy to clean. The material is also resistant to UV and won’t fade.
You can adjust the tension of the TruXedo Truxport depending on the weather. Once you secure the cover to the bed, it won’t flutter in the wind. The tarp also comes with a five-year warranty and is made in the United States.
As a softcover, it may not offer as much theft prevention as a hard locking cover, but it will protect your cargo from the elements and obscure it from view making theft less likely.

What We Didn’t Like About the TruXedo Truxport
Who Is the TruXedo Truxport for?
TruXedo Truxport is a budget tonneau cover. If you are purchasing your first one or want to save money, this option is for you. Considering the price tag, the TruXedo Truxport offers remarkable all-around value and performance.
There are a couple of disclaimers worth mentioning. The cover is not airtight, so take extra care to keep your truck clean. Don’t place objects on or against the tarp or framework. Finally, the fabric will not prevent theft from inside the truck box.
How to Install the TruXedo Truxport
Instructions provided by Truxport can be found here. While the installation process doesn’t require a drill, you will need a half-inch socket wrench, in addition to the cover assembly, driver’s side rail, passenger’s side rail, six clamps, and weather seal. Note that TruXedo will void the warranty if you don’t assemble the tonneau cover correctly.
Step 1: Install the weather seal on the cab end corner plugs.
Step 2: Place the cover assembly on top of the bed toward the front of the vehicle.
Step 3: Place the side rails on the pickup bed’s rail and assemble clamps.
Step 4: Put the rear clamps over the side rails and the pickup bed rails. The fit should be relatively loose for the moment. Next, slide the rail corner plugs snugly into the header. An additional weathering seal may be necessary depending on the liner, bed caps, and tailgate protector.
Step 5: Move the remaining clamps over the side of the rails and pickup bed rails. All three clamps should be holding the side rail in place at this point.
Step 6: Align the TruXedo Truxport cover with the pickup bed. Make sure the alignment is flush.
Step 7: Tighten the clamps underneath the rail until they are secure.
Step 8: After centering the side rails, tighten the rear and center clamps.
Step 9: Place the two remaining weather seals on the corner plugs near the tailgate.
Step 10: Release the retaining straps to roll the leather grain material toward you. Hook the tailgate header into the header stop on both sides of the truck. Rotate the tailgate header down until there are two clicks for latch engagement.
Step 11: Secure the loop to the hook fasteners on onside of the rail on both sides of the bed. This step requires pressing the edge of the cover along the length of the side.
Step 12: To open the tonneau cover, press down on the first latch while the tailgate is down. Press on the second one with one hand on the tailgate header to control the release movement. There’s no need to check the cover tension afterward, though periodic inspections help.
Conclusion
You can find TruXedo Truxports in three sizes, including for 5' 6", 6' 6", and 8' beds. The soft material has remarkable durability and weather resistance. While it does not offer the same standard of protection as high-end models, the tarp provides an excellent value for its price.
The bottom line is this: the TruXedo Truxport is a budget-friendly option that will protect whatever you need to haul from whatever mother nature can dish out—and looks good doing it.
